Hiking Gear

Whether you're looking for the best backpacks or the most comfortable hiking boots for a multi-dayer in the Lakes, we've got you covered. Our reviews of hiking gear comprise everything from boots and bags to jackets and poles — all so you know exactly how specific pieces of hiking gear perform in the various conditions they'll inevitably be subjected to here in the UK. Always authentic, unbiased and honest, all of our hiking gear reviews are always written with only one person in mind at the GBAC: You, our reader. And we do so to make sure that you've got all the kit and know how you need to truly make the most of your next big British adventure.

Depending on the specific items of hiking equipment we're testing, we head out in all weather and to all four corners of the UK to ensure we're putting hiking gear through a variety of different challenges. In the summer, for example, you may spot a Great British Adventure Club member testing a pair of boots walking across Dartmoor's boggy high moors, and then you may see that exact same pair of boots ascending Cairn Gorm in the snow a few months later. Or don't be alarmed if you spot a GBAC member running the Bob Graham Round in a three-layer Gore-Tex jacket to identify just how 'breathable' these things are in ‘real-world’ conditions.

To find out more about how we test, check out our How we test page and read about our protocols, our members and how we like to do things a little differently at the Great British Adventure Club. All so that your next hiking gear purchase can be one based on unbiased information and authentic experience — not marketing.
