Towering peaks, knife‑edge ridgelines, and secluded wild camps — this four‑day journey through the heart of Torridon is a true Scottish epic. You’ll take on three of the Northwest Highlands’ most iconic mountains — Liathach, Beinn Eighe, and Beinn Alligin — traversing rugged ridges, summiting six Munros, and sleeping beneath some of the darkest skies in the UK.
The Adventure
Across the expedition you’ll refine every element of your mountain craft: from packing efficiently and navigating complex terrain to pacing, nutrition, and staying safe in remote environments. With instruction and support from experienced guides, this is a masterclass in self‑reliant trekking where the payoff matches the challenge — an unforgettable test of endurance and mindset.
Who Is It For
This expedition is for experienced hikers eager to push their limits. You’ll need strong fitness, confidence on steep and rocky terrain, and readiness for full days of sustained effort. If you crave immersion in dramatic Highland landscapes and relish the challenge of multi‑day self‑supported travel, this journey will reward you with mastery, resilience, and memories that last a lifetime.
Trip Itinerary
-
Meet your guide and team for coffee and a briefing at The Torridon Stores & Café (NG 89694 56500). You’ll cover route planning, weather, and safety before transferring to Coire Mhic Nòbuil Car Park (NG 86942 57672) to begin the trek. From here, follow a winding trail through quiet glens to the base of Liathach. Camp below its monumental rock faces — a wild amphitheatre surrounded by deer and dark skies. Dinner, stargazing, and the soft rush of mountain streams set the tone for the days ahead.
-
An early start sees you contouring below Liathach’s southern cliffs before gaining the ridge. Two mighty Munros — Spidean a’ Choire Leith and Mullach an Rathain — crown a breathtaking traverse of pinnacles and narrow ridgelines. Expect scrambling, jaw‑dropping exposure, and unbeatable views over Loch Torridon. Return to camp for a hot meal and a well‑earned dram beside the tents.
-
After breakfast, head east toward Beinn Eighe’s colossal cliffs. Hike through corries and boulder fields into the hanging valley of Coire Mhic Fhearchair and its awe‑inspiring Triple Buttress — one of the Highlands’ most photographed features. From there, a steep climb brings you onto the high ridge to summit two more Munros. By evening, it’s back to camp for rest, reflection, and perhaps another cold‑water dip.
-
Break camp and return to the vehicles before tackling one final classic — Beinn Alligin. Without full packs, you’ll make a sweeping circular of the ridge, climbing Tom na Gruagaich and Sgùrr Mhòr, with panoramas stretching out over Torridon and the coast. Finish with a celebratory meal and trip debrief at a local pub — the perfect close to an unforgettable adventure.
-
